Online classes

Are your teachers qualified?

Yes, we ensure that all of our teachers have completed training and have a degree in language education.

When are teachers available for lessons?

Our teachers are generally available from 9am to 7pm, Monday - Saturday. During the first meeting we will discuss your availability and that of the teacher you choose to learn with.

How much do online lessons cost?

Our one-to-one online classes cost 17 USD per hour. Our small group classes cost 107 USD a month for 12 one hour classes (3 classes per week).

How do I book a lesson?

What platform do you use for online lessons?

We use Google Meet for all online lessons.

Why is the programme based in Oaxaca, México?

Mexico is the country with the most native Spanish speakers in the world. Oaxaca city is one of the most popular destinations in all of Mexico because it is a vibrant city full of bustling markets, rainbow-colored colonial architecture, incredibly rich history, artisan galleries, street art, workshops, friendly locals, and some of the best street food in the world.

Where in Oaxaca do the classes take place?

All Spanish classes take place at the Escuela Libre De Arte y Diseño (Calle Fresnito 129, 68130 Oaxaca de Juárez) which is a 15 minute drive from the city center. We offer a free transport service from a pick-up point in the center (El Llano park) every day so that you can travel to classes with ease.

How many hours of Spanish classes will I receive?

Every participant receives 15 hours a week of Spanish classes (3 hours a day, Monday - Friday). You can choose a program of 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks of classes.

How much does it cost?

The cost of our immersive experience varies depending on which of our four core components (Spanish classes, accommodation, artisan workshops, cultural experiences) you choose to add to your program. Where do I stay?

Vive el español provides connections between participants and local accommodation hosts. You can choose between staying with a family and being part of their day-today life: eating, going out, talking and learning; or staying with some local residents who will share their home with you. In both situations, participants get their own bedroom and private space, as well as one meal a day provided by the host.  All accommodation is in a safe location with local transport links. Participants are also welcome to organize their own accommodation if they wish.

Do I get to choose my accommodation host?

Due to managing the availability and schedules of hosts and participants we don’t offer the option to choose your accommodation host. However, all of our hosts are chosen with a strict process to ensure they provide a welcoming home and quality co-living experience.

How do I arrive to Oaxaca city and my accommodation?

The two main travel options to arrive in Oaxaca city from other parts of Mexico are by plane or bus. Mexico has many airports and you can often find affordable national flights between cities, for example Cancún-Oaxaca de Juárez or Mexico City-Oaxaca de Juárez. Alternatively, the ADO bus company provides travel to Oaxaca from many cities in México.

 

Once you arrive in Oaxaca city, if you are staying with one of our accommodation hosts they will pick you up from the airport or bus terminal. If you are staying in private accommodation, we recommend using a trusted taxi service to arrive at your accommodation. We are happy to provide contact details for a reputable company.

Is Oaxaca city safe?

Oaxaca city is generally a safe place and has a low crime rate compared to other parts of Mexico. That said, it holds the risks of any city and we always advise to use common sense and keep standard safety tips in mind. For example, avoid carrying valuables or large amounts of cash around, don’t walk home alone at night, know the emergency services number (911), keep an eye on belongings in public places and always use a reputable taxi company. We also ensure that all of our accommodation is in the safest areas of the city.

What currency is used in México?

The currency of México is the Mexican peso.

Do you provide insurance?

We do not provide personal insurance and do not take responsibility for any personal incidents during your stay. It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they have appropriate insurance for their travel and stay in México.
